Types of counselling Therapy's

What is couples therapy? When relationships start to break down it is often difficult to feel heard or understood by the other partner, this can lead to conflict, anger and hurt. There are many reasons why relationships start to break down but when things don’t get better a therapist may be able to help. The therapist can help the couple to feel heard by the other partner and to relate to each other more effectively. Couple counselling is not always about restoring the relationship as the couple may decide to separate. When this occurs the therapist can help you to make the transition.

What is group therapy? This is when a small group of individuals usually 6 to 8 come together for therapy. The group may be specific to one area such as sexual abuse, bereavement and loss or may group together for more general therapy. Individuals will have an initial individual session with the group worker to assess your suitability for group work. There is a waiting list for this service.

What is family therapy? Family therapy explores the relationships between people in the family. The therapist will help the family look at the patterns of interactions in the family unit. This will help the family to see what’s going on between them and improve communication within the family unit. The therapist will not blame or side with any individual and will remain non- judgemental.

Family therapy may be useful whenever disruptions occur in the family such as following illness, redundancy , separation, relative dependency, divorce, bereavement, or life changing events such the birth of a another child.

What is children therapy? Children are sensitively worked with on a one to one basis although in early sessions a parent or guardian may like to accompany the child for support. Children therapy can be creative and adaptable to suit the child for instance some children like to work with art media such as paint, crayons and clay.

What is Hypnotherapy?Hypnotherapy is a powerful and effective treatment which helps to control unwanted thoughts and feelings. It can quickly change negative thinking patterns, results may be permanent. During hypnotherapy the client is guided into relaxation and intent action so positive suggestions can be made to reach your goals.

Hypnotherapy can change your patterns of behaviour and perceptions, enabling irrational fears, phobias, habits, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome.
